Rembrandt, an inspiration for Goya

21 September 2006 – 21 December 2006

The display features portraits and religious themes, in which we can admire the dramatic intensity and expressive power that Rembrandt was able to use to illustrate the subjects.

Rembrandt is considered the finest engraver of all time and his etchings have been a source of inspiration for many artists, among them Goya and Picasso.

When Francisco de Goya acquired some etchings by Rembrandt, he discovered a technique and a mastery which helped him to give shape to his own ideas, which took the form of his first great series of etchings, Los caprichos.
